A Safer, Greener, Rufford

A vision for a tranquil, sustainable, and safe space.

Beyond the Barriers

The campaign to close Rufford Ford isn't just about saying "No" to a dangerous ford; it's about saying "Yes" to a better future for the local area. When we removed the spectacle of the ford we opened the door to a safer and greener environment for everyone.

Our Positive Vision

Active Travel

A closed ford creates a safe corridor for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders. Instead of dodging dangerous drivers and content creators, families can enjoy the lane as part of a safe, green route connecting our villages.

Environmental Protection

Studies have shown that ending the constant stream of traffic through the water reduces toxic runoff into the local ecosystem. This helps invertebrates and then other species in the food chain. It's a small but vital win for our local biodiversity. Rarely or never-seen creatures, like kingfisher and otters have once more been spotted near the ford.

Restoration of Peace

By removing the draw for dangerous drivers and social media crowds, we return Rufford to its former state: a tranquil country lane. This benefits local wildlife, residents, and visitors to the Abbey and Mill alike.
